There was something I kept up my sleeve while writing the previous post. Harry included a surprise package with one of his recent emails.
6 enticing pictures which shatter the widely held belief that La Fille Mal Gardee is the only ballet which has an OTK spanking.
Harry explains that they’re from a ballet version of The Taming of the Shrew, “but not the usual disappointingly spankingless adaptation by John Cranko. This one was choreographed by Stephen Mills and premiered in 2003; it’s part of the repertoire of the Texas company Ballet Austin. The spanking happens where it usually does in Shrew performances which include it, when Kate and Petruchio first meet.
The six photos are from four different performances in 2007 with two different ballerinas (the usual arrangement for repertoire ballets): The top three thumbnails are Aara Krumpe and Paul Michael Bloodgood; the bottom three are of Allisyn Paino, who originated the role in 2004, being spanked by Jim Stein as Petruchio.
The photographer was in the stalls of the theater for the dress rehearsals, but in the wings for the performances, hence the two different camera angles. Personally my favorite is the first dress rehearsal Krumpe picture (top picture), which gets a real sense of action.”
